My Profile

Marie Price

Marie Price

My name is Mrs Marie Price and I work as a Music Specialist at The Abbey Primary School and Fleetville Junior School in St Albans, and for the Herts Music Service teaching woodwind, recorder and choral singing.

I took a Music degree at Exeter University with clarinet as my main instrument, followed by a PGCE specialising in Primary Music.  I qualified in 1987 but I was teaching woodwind and directing choirs for a number of years before that.

I have been teaching for Herts Music Service for 10 years but previously I have taught in primary schools as a class teacher and music coordinator, in a secondary school teaching music and in a middle school for seven years as Head of Special Needs, while also keeping up my music teaching out of school.

My job with Herts is varied – as well as woodwind I have taught piano, string groups, recorder, double bass, guitar as well as singing teaching and choirs. I manage the resources part of the Music Service web site and undertake various other management activities such as moderating other teachers’ teaching and contributing to training.

I also run two church choirs and I am Education and Training Officer for the Royal School of Church Music in the Herts and Beds area. I have taken around 500 pupils through grade exams from 1 to 8 with no fails in the last 20 years. About two thirds of my grade exam results are merits or distinctions, significantly above the average. I have entered over 200 for Music Medals all of whom have passed.

I would like to thank the parents of my pupils for all their support.  All your children are lovely and I truly enjoy teaching them,  which makes this is a very rewarding job!

Feedback from courses and singing days:

Marie’s session was vibrant and full of enthusiasm and good ideas and you can see why she is so successful in what she does.

Marie Price’s talk was extremely informative and inspiring.

Marie Price’s enthusiastic and helpful presentation on the training of young people, which also had considerable relevance to the training of adult singers, was particularly effective. Welcomed the many useful tips.

Marie is an excellent teacher and she put her message over very well.

Marie was fab. The teachers really enjoyed it and thought she was amazing.

Marie was an excellent director for the occasion.

From the Head of Wider Opportunities in Music, Herts Music Service – “A huge thank you for rounding off the CPD morning with such a fantastic drumsticks lesson.  It was very well received with outstanding feedback with comments such as – “refreshing idea – will work a treat”, “Great idea”, “excellent!” and “fantastic ideas – inspirational”.

From the RSCM Regional Adviser for the South West – “Marie recently masterminded a Junior Voices Festival for the Royal School of Church Music in Glastonbury.  She worked with 230 children aged 8 to 11.  Her ability to enthuse, stimulate and encourage is inspirational. Her chemistry with young people is outstanding.  It was evidently clear how much the children were enjoying themselves -
many of which were inexperienced singers.  She is a fine musician with the rare ability to communicate with singers of all ages.”

From the Schools’ Music Association (Recorder Workshops) -  “We have  enjoyed having you on the team for so many events and have seen the enjoyment and benefit you have given to the children over the years.   You enjoy working with the young ones and your creative approach to teaching them has been great.  However, seeing you work, on occasions, with some of the older ones has also been quite inspirational.
We have had compliments both from the children and parents about the enjoyment
you have given.”
