For ABRSM exams on your instrument, you must pass Grade 5 music Theory to be allowed to take Grade 6 or higher on your instrument, It’s best to start working on this when you are at about grade 3 in your playing, as it takes a while to get up to grade 5 – it is GCSE level. Contact me for lessons.

There are alternatives – there is an exam called Practical Musicianship, you can take Grade 5 in that, or you can take ABRSM Grade 5 Jazz and use these as alternatives to taking the written theory exam. Contact me to discuss.
